Cities are home to most of the world’s population, with more and more people heading to urban centers every day. As a result, cities are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for over 70% of carbon dioxide emissions. At the same time, cities experience much of the brunt of climate change as they contend with extreme weather events, urban flooding, heat island effect, and more.
Cities are in dire need of transformative climate action. Forests and nature must be a part of the solution — and can be in multiple ways. Cities4Forests works with cities to use nature to address the global climate challenge by helping cities track the GHG emissions and removals from forests and trees, providing technical assistance to help them develop policies and plans, and advancing projects that reduce emissions and promote climate adaptation.
