Growing the Market For Deforestation-Free Commodities

The world won’t be able to end deforestation without major changes to global supply chains. From 2001 to 2015, just seven agricultural commodities contributed to 26% of global tree cover loss. And because much of the world’s population lives in cities, the commodity purchases they make have a massive impact on the world’s faraway forests.

Cities4Forests works with cities around the world to help them make forest-friendly commodity purchases and make the most of the resources in their own backyards. At a local level, we partner with organizations that aim to establish urban wood reuse markets, which turn downed trees into new products instead of letting them go to waste. On a global scale, we help connect cities to sustainable commodity sources that prevent deforestation and benefit local communities.
