In addition to climate, water, and biodiversity benefits, nature-based solutions can provide cities with economic gains. Analysis from the UN estimates that infrastructure projects that utilize nature-based solutions could save roughly $248 billion annually. They can be two to five times more cost-effective than traditional infrastructure alone. Despite this, there is an over $700 billion global financing gap in protecting nature. Without more financing for nature-based solutions, cities will miss out on economic savings and climate resilience.
Cities4Forests works with corporations, funders and investors, governments, city utilities, and other actors to help bridge this financing gap and get more money flowing toward nature-based solutions. We make the economic case for natural infrastructure, conduct analysis on the economic benefits, and support the development of innovative financing mechanisms that ease access to funding.
